Popular Podcast 'The Rest Is History' Is Coming to Australia
One of the world’s most popular podcasts, “The Rest Is History,” has confirmed a return to live touring in late 2025, with dates set for shows in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane between November 27 and December 5.
Hosted by Tom Holland and Dominic Sandbrook, the podcast has been educating listeners on some of history’s most fascinating tidbits for over five years now. Past episodes have covered topics big and small, ranging from the French Revolution and the rise of Nazi Germany to the Aztec Empire and the ten worst parties in history.
In an interview with The Washington Post about the podcast’s success, Sandbrook said, “I think there is a thirst for historical stories and an enduring and, in some ways, maybe infinite public appetite for history. And I think we were very fortunate to launch when we did in 2020, 2021, when all the conversation about history, on both sides of the Atlantic, was very anguished.”
“We didn’t set out to be a counterweight to that at all. We just didn’t even think about that. Because we didn’t think anyone was going to listen — we just thought we’d have fun and talk about stuff that interested us.”
“I think we were just fortunate with that timing because we stood out for that reason. And I think people are tired of maybe being slightly lectured from one side or another. And they just maybe like a slightly more good-humoured take. Good-humoured and yet serious.”
History draws an audience, and “The Rest Is History” has garnered over 18 million streams and downloads in January 2025 alone, and the duo’s previous live tour in 2023 sold out every show.
