Police to Sanction Officers Caught Taking Bribes from Chinese National

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is grappling with a public relations crisis after a video surfaced showing uniformed officers receiving cash from a Chinese national. The incident, widely circulated on social media, has sparked outrage and prompted swift action from the Force Headquarters.
The video depicts several officers lining up to receive what appears to be cash gifts from a Chinese individual. The footage immediately drew condemnation from the public, with many Nigerians expressing disappointment and calling for reforms within the police force. Human rights advocates have also weighed in, describing the officers' behavior as disgraceful and damaging to the image of the NPF.
In response to the viral video, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, issued a statement condemning the officers' conduct as unprofessional and unethical. Adejobi emphasized that the actions of the officers do not represent the established ethics, standards, and core values of the Nigeria Police Force. He further stated that the NPF has zero tolerance for such behavior, which undermines public trust and confidence.
The Force Headquarters confirmed that the officers involved have been identified and are currently undergoing disciplinary procedures. While the specific nature of the disciplinary actions was not disclosed, Adejobi assured the public that justice would be served.
In addition to addressing the conduct of its officers, the NPF also cautioned individuals and organizations that utilize police services, particularly escorts and guards. The Force urged them to refrain from any act capable of degrading the integrity of its officers or bringing the Force into disrepute.
"The Nigeria Police Force hereby cautions individuals and organisations privileged to the services of police personnel, particularly as escorts and guards or other specialised services, to desist from any act capable of degrading the integrity of its officers and bringing the Force to disrepute," Adejobi stated.
This incident comes at a time when the Nigeria Police Force is actively working to restore public trust and enhance accountability mechanisms. The Force has called on citizens to support ongoing reforms and has affirmed its commitment to transparent and professional service delivery.
The outcome of the disciplinary process is expected to serve as a deterrent and reinforce the importance of ethical conduct within the ranks of the Nigeria Police Force. The NPF aims to demonstrate its commitment to upholding the law and maintaining public trust by addressing this incident with decisive action.
