Police rescue boy from kidnappers, arrest hotel manager, 26 others in Lagos

A 14-year-Old boy, Hassan, has been rescued by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command after being kidnapped in the Olodi-Apapa area of Lagos State.

The police received a complaint on May 1, 2025, at about 2:50 p.m., that Hassan had been abducted, with the kidnappers demanding a ransom of N20 million for his release.

Acting swiftly, operatives deployed to the ransom collection point at Total Filling Station, Wema Bridge, Apapa, arrested one of the suspects, 25-year-old Musa Shaibu.

Further investigations led the police to a hotel in Ajegunle, where the victim was held. Hassan was rescued unhurt and reunited with his family, while the hotel manager, 41-year-old Remilekun Ajilola, was also arrested for further investigation.

This rescue is one of 12 cases recorded by the Lagos State Police Command in the past two weeks. During this period, 27 suspects were arrested for various crimes, including murder, defilement, kidnapping, armed robbery, vandalism, cultism, and unlawful possession of firearms.

The command recovered two firearms, seven rounds of ammunition, one vehicle, a tricycle, three battle axes, three cutlasses, charms, and other contraband.

In another incident, on April 27, 2025, operatives responded to a distress call at Alagbado, where a 25-year-old man, Quadri, was attacked by suspected cultists armed with dangerous weapons. The police arrested the suspects, 26-year-old Riliwan Afuape and 29-year-old Bamidele Ayobami, while the victim, who sustained a machete injury, was taken to the General Hospital, Ile-Epo, for treatment.

Similarly, on April 28, 2025, two suspected armed robbers were rescued from an angry mob in the Suru Alaba community, Ajegunle. The suspects, 25-year-olds Azeez Anafi, alias Stainless, and Damilare Brown, were taken into custody, and a locally made pistol, one expended cartridge, and a suspected stolen tricycle were recovered.

The robbers allegedly shot and killed a 35-year-old motorcycle rider, Abubakar, during their attempt to steal his motorcycle.

His body has been deposited at a public morgue for autopsy, while the suspects remain in custody.

The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, assured residents that under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, efforts are ongoing to curb crime and ensure safety across the state.
