Police Intercept AK-47 Bullets, Man Hacked to Death in FCT Community

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has recently made significant strides in combating crime with two notable incidents. First, they intercepted a shipment of illegal ammunition at an Abuja bus terminal. Second, they are investigating the tragic death of a farmer allegedly murdered by suspected herders.

Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Ishaku Sharu, reported that police operatives, in collaboration with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and officers from the Nyanya Division, successfully tracked and arrested one Nuhu Aminu from Katsina State at the Nyanya bus terminal. Aminu was found in possession of 488 live AK-47 rounds concealed inside two 25-litre jerrycans filled with palm oil. During interrogation, Aminu confessed he was recruited by one Yakubu Kachalla from Funtua, Katsina State, who paid him N100,000 to collect the consignment from an unidentified contact in Nasarawa State and deliver it in Katsina.

DCP Sharu emphasized that this arrest demonstrates the FCT Police Command’s persistent efforts to disrupt criminal networks and curb the spread of illegal arms. He urged FCT residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities, reaffirming the police command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in the territory. The suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue to apprehend accomplices.

In a separate incident, a 56-year-old farmer, Baba Issac, was allegedly murdered on his farm at Gurufufu village in Kwaku ward of Kuje Area Council of the FCT. A resident reported that Isaac went to his farm with his children to clear portions of land when they encountered herders whose cows were eating his cassava leaves. An argument ensued, and one of Isaac's sons reportedly hit a cow with a cutlass. The situation escalated, and one of the herders allegedly stabbed Isaac on the head with a cutlass, resulting in his death.

These incidents highlight the ongoing challenges related to crime and security in the FCT, requiring continuous vigilance and proactive measures by both law enforcement and the community.
