Police arrest 14 swindlers in Jigawa
A joint security operation comprising the Police, Army, Civil Defence, DSS, Vigilante, and Yan Bulala has apprehended 14 notorious suspected criminals in Digawa village of Birnin Kudu Local Government Area, Jigawa State.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shi’isu, the arrest followed coordinated intelligence operations targeting criminal hideouts in Digawa village, where fraudsters were said to be predominantly perpetrating their illicit activities.
The operation, which took place on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at about 10:00 am was based on credible intelligence reports about the activities of a syndicate involved in fraudulent practices and other criminal acts in the region.
During the raid, security personnel arrested 14 male suspects and recovered a cache of incriminating items. These included nine fabricated pistols, 27 Dane guns, 37 gun pieces, four motorcycles, 12 pieces of fake US dollars, and 188 pieces of suspected counterfeit Central African currency. Other items recovered were a bow and arrow, metals, animal skin, file, saw, vice, blower, and various criminal charms.
The suspects are currently in police custody undergoing thorough investigation and will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of the investigation if found culpable.
The statement emphasized that the operation underscores the Police Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding communities and rooting out criminal elements. The police also called on members of the public to continue cooperating by reporting suspicious individuals and criminal activities, stressing that only collective effort can help rid Jigawa State of crime and criminality.
In a related development, on June 11, 2025, at about 8:30 pm, information at the Command’s disposal revealed that a group of fraudsters from Digawa village invaded Dumus village and attacked residents because they reportedly refused to support the fraudsters’ activities. The attack led to the death of one Isma’il Ibrahim, 60, while eight others sustained injuries.
The deceased’s body and the injured persons were taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Birnin Kudu, for autopsy and medical attention, respectively.
