Two people were killed and more than a dozen were injured after a Mexican Navy training ship struck the bottom of the Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday.
The ship, Cuauhtémoc, was carrying 277 people when it “lost power” and struck the bridge, New York City Mayor Eric Adams said. It was on a global goodwill tour and en route to Iceland at the time of the incident, officials said.
There was no visible damage to the bridge, which only temporarily closed. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the collision.

A person’s hands are tied outside Columbia University’s graduation ceremony in New York on Wednesday, May 21. Videos showed Columbia students chanting “Free Mahmoud” and booing acting university president Claire Shipman during her commencement speech. Khalil, a Palestinian activist who helped lead Columbia’s student protest movement demanding a ceasefire in Gaza, was arrested and detained by federal agents on March 8. His lawyer said his green card was revoked by the Trump administration. He is being held at a detention center in Louisiana. A federal district judge has blocked his immediate removal from the country.

Haliburton and the Pacers stunned the New York Knicks, winning 138-135 after they trailed by 14 points with less than three minutes to go in regulation. Haliburton’s choking gesture paid homage to Pacers legend Reggie Miller, who famously made the same gesture to Knicks superfan Spike Lee during a playoff comeback in 1994. Miller was courtside Wednesday as an announcer for TNT.

Palestinians struggle to get donated food at a community kitchen in Khan Younis, Gaza, on Friday, May 16. Aid agencies warn that much of Gaza will be on the verge of famine if supplies are not allowed into the enclave in volume. Until this week, Israel had forbidden all humanitarian aid entering Gaza since March 2, saying Hamas was stealing and profiting from it. Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday that more than 100 humanitarian aid trucks entered the enclave on Wednesday.
