Prominent figures in attendance include: Samuel Ortom, immediate past governor of Benue State, and David Ombugadu, the party’s 2023 governorship candidate in Nasarawa State. Their participation underscores the importance the PDP attaches to rebuilding its influence in the North-Central zone.
Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, Plateau State governor, is also present, accompanied by his deputy, members of the state executive council, and lawmakers from the PlateaoState House of Assembly. The strong turnout from the host state highlights Plateau’s key role in the party’s political future.

The congress comes at a tense period for the PDP, which has been plagued by internal divisions since its presidential primaries in 2022. The fallout between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike, now minister of the FCT, stemming from Atiku’s decision to overlook Wike for the vice-presidential ticket, continues to affect party cohesion.
The PDP has also faced criticism for repeatedly postponing its national convention, which has been delayed over five times since the 2023 general elections. As the zonal congress proceeds, party stakeholders are hopeful that it marks a step toward healing and reorganization ahead of future national contests.
