Patriots' Low Post-Draft Power Ranking

The New England Patriots had a generally praised 2025 NFL Draft, focusing on improving their offense with their first three selections. They acquired LSU offensive tackle Will Campbell, who pledged to protect Drake Maye, Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson, and Washington State wide receiver Kyle Williams to enhance their running and passing game explosiveness.

Despite these additions, the Bleacher Report NFL staff ranked the Patriots at No. 26 in their post-NFL Draft power rankings. The B/R team noted that the Patriots seem to have found Tom Brady’s successor in Drake Maye and were aggressive in building around him. They signed wide receiver Stefon Diggs to a large contract to be the team's No. 1 receiver and also signed defensive tackle Milton Williams to a significant deal.

Gary Davenport suggests that a substantial leap forward from Maye and the Patriots is necessary for them to contend for the postseason. He notes the extensive transformation the Patriots underwent in the offseason, highlighting the work needed to regain relevance in the AFC East.

Davenport writes, "The Patriots should be an improved team in 2025, but it will take a massive step forward from both Maye and his teammates for New England to actually matter in the division."

In an AFC that is more top-heavy compared to the NFC, the Patriots have an opportunity to compete for a Wild Card spot. With a successful head coach, a promising quarterback, and improvements on both sides of the ball, the potential for success exists in the first year of this new regime.
