Pastor Enenche Declines N30 Million Donation From Governor

Pastor Paul Enenche, the founder of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, has garnered significant public attention after he politely rejected a N30 million cash donation from Kebbi State Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris. The incident, which was captured in a viral video, occurred during a two-day healing and deliverance crusade held by the cleric in Birnin Kebbi, the state’s capital, from June 17 to 18.

During the event, a representative of Governor Idris publicly announced the N30 million donation, stating it was intended to support the large outdoor crusade. The representative emphasized that the money was available in cash and ready for immediate handover, a gesture he described as the governor's usual practice of showing appreciation and hospitality.

However, Pastor Enenche firmly but courteously declined the offer, reiterating that the church would not accept the funds. He appreciated the governor’s generosity but strongly recommended that the substantial sum be redirected to a more pressing charitable cause, such as an orphanage or any other benevolent initiative of the governor’s choosing. He stated, "If there’s anything like an orphanage, if there’s anything like that, at your discretion, please apply this amount of money to it. It will not be received."

The governor’s aide, in response, commended Pastor Enenche for his humility, integrity, and dedication, acknowledging the pastor's principled stand. The rejection sparked widespread reactions among Nigerians on social media, with opinions divided. Some lauded Enenche's decision as a smart and principled move, viewing the public announcement of the donation as a political maneuver by the governor. These commentators suggested that true charitable donations should be made privately. Others, however, criticized the rejection, arguing that the funds could have been used to assist needy church members or to further propagate the gospel, questioning the public nature of the refusal.

This event also brings to mind a similar instance where Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State commended Pastor Enenche for conducting a crusade in Awka and subsequently refunded Dunamis International Gospel Centre the fee it had paid for the usage of Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square. Soludo had expressed that Enenche's message on righteousness would contribute positively to shaping the minds of young people in the state.
