Parliament has officially reconstituted the Appointments Committee, Business Committee, and the Committee of Selection, along with other parliamentary committees, following leadership changes and ministerial appointments.

This was done in accordance with Article 103 of the 1992 Constitution and the Standing Orders of Parliament.

A report issued by Parliament stated that the Committee of Selection, tasked with overseeing the composition of parliamentary committees, undertook this exercise to reflect the current structure of the House.

The process also ensured that committee representation aligned with the composition of the Majority and Minority Caucuses while considering the principles of fairness and inclusivity.

The reconstitution became necessary due to the appointment of some committee members as Ministers of State.

Additionally, the Majority Caucus had undergone leadership changes following ministerial appointments, necessitating adjustments in the composition of the affected committees.

The selection process took into account the parliamentary structure, where some committee positions are held by virtue of the offices members occupy.

This includes roles such as the Majority Leader, Deputy Majority Leader, and Chief Whip.

The current parliamentary composition stands at 183 members for the Majority Caucus, 88 members for the Minority Caucus, and four Independent Members.

Notably, the Independent Members have opted to do business with the Majority Caucus, effectively shifting the parliamentary ratio to 187 for the Majority and 88 for the Minority.

The committee also adhered to Standing Order 210, which stipulates that the appointment of committee chairpersons should reflect the numerical strength of parties in Parliament.

After thorough deliberations, the Committee of Selection has finalised the reconstitution process, with the full list of committee members submitted for approval by the House.
