Kumasi, May 19, GNA – The Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Mr. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has called for a deliberate integration of digital and social skills in nurturing 21st-century talents, emphasizing that such an approach is critical in preparing the youth for global competitiveness and responsible citizenship.

Speaking as the Guest of Honour at the 73rd Anniversary, Prize-Giving Day, and Homecoming celebration of Opoku Ware School (OWASS), Mr. Adjei—an alumnus of the school—noted that the world was rapidly transforming under the influence of technology.

He said the anniversary theme, “Developing 21st Century Talent: Integrating Digital and Social Skills,” was not only timely but essential for shaping future-ready individuals.

“The world, as we once knew it, has undergone a dramatic transformation—from banking to education, agriculture to public governance—with the pervasive force of technology redefining how we learn, work and live,” Mr. Adjei said.

He stressed the need not to overlook foundational social competencies such as empathy, integrity, teamwork, and ethical leadership, which he described as the bedrock of human interaction and national development.

Mr. Adjei commended the OWASS alumni association, the Akatakyie fraternity, for embedding mentorship, sports, debate, and other social engagement activities into the school’s anniversary programs.

He said such efforts build confidence, character, and creativity among students.

The event was hosted by the AY Year Group, who marked their silver jubilee as part of the celebration. Vice President of the group, Kat. Ing. John Owusu Boateng, reaffirmed their commitment to the academic and social progress of their alma mater. He urged students to remain focused, disciplined, and mindful stewards of the legacy projects contributed by various year groups.

The colorful ceremony was chaired by Kat. Prof. Samuel Bert Boadi-Kusi, Dean of the International Relations Office at the University of Cape Coast. Special Guest of Honour, Kat. Nana Owusu Ampe III, Paramount Chief of Obogu, attended with his royal entourage.

Guests were treated to performances from the school’s choir, brass band, cadet corps, and cultural troupe. Students, teachers, and non-teaching staff who excelled in various academic and extracurricular disciplines were recognized and awarded for their achievements.

The 73rd anniversary not only celebrated the school’s legacy of excellence but also ignited a renewed call for an educational paradigm that balances digital innovation with human-centered values.
