Over 400 editors to attend three-day NGE convention in Enugu
The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) is set to hold its Biennial National Convention in Enugu from June 26 to 29, 2025.
Themed “Building a Secure and Cohesive Nigeria: The Role of Dialogue, Inclusion, and the Media,” the convention aims to address the nation’s pressing security and unity challenges through the lens of media engagement and responsible journalism.
More than 400 editors from across the country are expected to participate in the convention, which will serve as a platform for deliberations on how the media can foster inclusion, promote national dialogue, and support peacebuilding efforts. Key stakeholders from media, government, and security institutions will also be present to contribute to the discourse.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, will officially open the convention, while the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, will serve as Chief Host.
Chairman of Channels Television, Dr. John Momoh, will preside over proceedings, and prominent media figures, including Prince Sam Amuka-Pemu, Chief Segun Osoba, and Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, will participate in honorary capacities.
The Director-General of the State Security Services (SSS), Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, will deliver the keynote address focused on leveraging Nigeria’s diversity to enhance national security and stability, with a specific emphasis on the media’s pivotal role. The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, will attend as Special Guest.
The convention will underscore the importance of inclusive governance, acknowledging diversity as a source of creativity, resilience, and innovation. Discussions will focus on how the media can shape public understanding, counter divisive narratives, promote tolerance, and foster social cohesion.
In addition to policy discussions, the event will feature the election of a new executive team to lead the Guild over the next two years.
The convention marks a significant moment for the media industry as it reaffirms its commitment to national unity, professional standards, and democratic accountability.
