Osun PDP senators break ranks, back Tinubu for reelection

Published 15 hours ago2 minute read

In a move that has sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s political landscape, all three senators of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State have stunned their party by endorsing President Bola Tinubu for a second term in 2027.

Defying expectations and party loyalty, Senator Kamarudeen Lere Oyewumi (Osun West), Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunla (Osun Central), and Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi (Osun East) declared their full and unambiguous support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid—openly breaking ranks with the PDP.

In a joint statement issued in Abuja under the Osun PDP Senators’ Caucus, the lawmakers said their decision followed a strategic meeting where they unanimously agreed that Tinubu’s leadership was the right path forward for Nigeria.

“This is more than an endorsement—it’s a bold declaration of confidence in President Tinubu’s vision and delivery,” the senators stated. “From infrastructure to food security, national stability to economic reform, his administration is already producing tangible results that cannot be ignored.”

They pointed to marked reductions in food prices, improvements in national security, and a growing sense of economic stability as signs of the President’s effectiveness. The lawmakers also emphasized that their constituencies are fully aligned with this decision, saying, “Osun stands firmly behind Tinubu.”

In a striking line from the statement, they declared: “There is no credible opposition within our ranks—the entire Osun Central stands united behind this historic decision.”

The endorsement signals a growing shift in Nigeria’s political tide, raising critical questions about the unity of the opposition ahead of the 2027 elections—and positioning President Tinubu as a candidate with growing cross-party appeal.
