Opposition leaders say the Kenya Kwanza government has failed to deliver on its mandate and is hoodwinking Kenyans with the recent wave of empowerment projects overseen by leaders allied to President William Ruto.
The opposition’s continued onslaught on the second day of the meet-the-people caravan featuring leaders from the opposition made a stop in Voi, Taita Taveta, on Saturday where the recent empowerment projects led by leaders allied to the government received a bashing.
The leaders said the government is now using the projects as a smokescreen to hide its failures in addressing, among others, the high cost of living.
“Mambo haya yote ndio serikali ya Ruto imeshindwa na wanakuja kila mahali sasa wameanzisha mfumo mwingine wa harambee kupitia nyuma ati oo wanaiita women empowerment,” said Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
Mumias East MP Peter Salasya added: “Walisema watasaidia mtu wa chini lakini leo hii as we speak wameanza kufanya mambo ya harambee. Hatukuwachagua kufanya harambee. We want ideas, we want policies, we want job creation.”
Bashing the broad-based government, the opposition expressed confidence in their support base, which they said will clinch victory to dethrone President Ruto.
“Si Raila alitumia Kalonzo vibaya? Si Ruto alimtumia vibaya? Si wameshikana? Sasa mimi na Kalonzo juu tulitumika vibaya tukishikana, tupigane na hawa, iko shida? Harambee wantam!” Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua said.
Former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala added, “Tukitaka tukombolewe na turegeshe mali ya Kenya, lazima William Ruto aende one term.”
The opposition leaders have been on a two-day whistle-stop tour that was designed to start from Malili in Makueni to Mombasa City.
