Ododo commissions 7.7km road in Sokoto
KOGI State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, yesterday, commissioned the 7.7-kilometre Gande-Male-Gwahitto-Fako Road in Sokoto State, applauding the initiative as a symbol of people-centred governance and developmental leadership under Governor Ahmad Aliyu.
The road, constructed at a cost of ₦2.2 billion in partnership with the World Bank, traverses Silame and Binji local councils. It is expected to significantly boost agricultural activities by improving access to markets and easing transportation across key farming communities.
Speaking during the commissioning, Ododo commended Aliyu for prioritising infrastructure and rural development, describing the project as more than just a road—”a lifeline for farmers, traders, and residents who now have direct access to economic opportunities.
“You are not just building roads; you are opening up possibilities, reconnecting people to prosperity, and laying a solid foundation for inclusive growth,” Ododo said. “You are busy constructing, not campaigning. And the people of Sokoto will remember this.”
The event also featured the groundbreaking of a 500-unit housing estate in the state capital and drew dignitaries, including traditional rulers, top government officials, and community leaders.
In his remarks, Aliyu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fulfilling campaign promises and ensuring equitable development across all communities in the state.
“The Gande-Male-Gwahitto-Fako Road is another promise kept. This project aligns with our broader vision to take development to rural areas and ensure no community is left behind,” he said.
He emphasised that the collaboration with the World Bank reflects his government’s focus on transparency and sustainable partnerships. He also appreciated the cooperation of the beneficiary communities during the project execution.
The governor expressed gratitude to Ododo for accepting the invitation to commission the road, describing his presence as a testament to the unity and synergy among states governed by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
