The Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC) has deployed four specialist nurses to Jamaica as part of efforts to deepen bilateral ties with the Caribbean region.

The deployment coincides with President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing visit to St. Lucia, a move the agency says underscores his commitment to South-South Cooperation.

The initiative, according to NTAC Director General (DG), Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, in a statement on Sunday by Adetoun Olubunmi, the Head of Information and Public Relations at NTAC, aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and advances Nigeria’s foreign policy and development cooperation goals.

Speaking at the deployment ceremony in Abuja on Wednesday, represented by Ambassador Saidu D. Mohammad, the DG commended the President for reinforcing Nigeria’s global partnerships through technical diplomacy.

The volunteers, who will serve in Jamaica for two years, include specialist nurses and public health educators.

They are expected to contribute to Jamaica’s health system while promoting Nigeria’s values and strengthening diplomatic ties.

The DG urged the volunteers to serve as exemplary ambassadors and uphold national dignity.

The Nigerian Technical Aid Corps, under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has deployed over 10,000 professionals to more than 40 countries since its inception in 1987.

A minute’s silence was observed in memory of a prospective volunteer who passed away before deployment.
