NMDPRA Urges Oil Marketers to Renew Expired Licenses

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has issued a directive to oil marketers in Katsina State, mandating the immediate renewal of expired licenses. This announcement was made by Muhammad Omar, the NMDPRA controller in Katsina, during a meeting held on Wednesday with the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Katsina chapter.

Controller Omar emphasized that the renewal of licenses is a legal requirement and warned that failure to comply with operational and licensing rules would result in disciplinary action. He specifically cautioned residents and petrol users against storing petroleum products in their homes, citing the heightened risk of fire and other dangers due to the current intense heat.

"The renewal of expired licenses must be done immediately as required by law," Omar stated, reinforcing the importance of adhering to regulatory standards. He also addressed the public's concerns regarding the supply of petroleum products, assuring them that the supply in Katsina remains stable and sufficient. He urged consumers not to engage in panic-buying or to store petrol in residential areas, emphasizing that these measures are in place to protect lives and property during the hot season.

Aminu Ahmed, the chairman of the Katsina IPMAN, responded positively to the NMDPRA's directives, commending Omar’s efforts and pledging full cooperation to uphold safety and regulatory standards. Ahmed's commitment underscores the collaborative effort between regulatory authorities and industry stakeholders to ensure compliance and safety within the petroleum sector.

In related news, the NMDPRA recently announced that it has issued 47 licenses to establish (LTE) refineries across the country within the past year, signaling ongoing developments in the broader petroleum industry. This move aims to bolster Nigeria's refining capacity and reduce reliance on imported petroleum products.

The NMDPRA's proactive measures in Katsina State, coupled with its broader efforts to expand refining capacity, reflect a commitment to ensuring the safe and reliable supply of petroleum products while adhering to regulatory standards. These actions are particularly crucial during periods of high temperatures, where the risk of accidents related to improper fuel storage is significantly increased.

The regulatory body's dual focus on licensing compliance and public safety highlights its role in safeguarding both industry operations and the well-being of citizens. The collaboration between the NMDPRA and IPMAN in Katsina serves as a model for maintaining standards and promoting responsible practices within the petroleum sector.
