NiMet alerts Cross River, Ogun, Edo, Delta, others of three-day heavy rainfall

Published 2 weeks ago1 minute read

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has warned residents of Cross River, Ogun, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom states to prepare for heavy rainfall over the next three days.

In its latest bulletin, NiMet predicted light rainfall in Lagos, Ondo, Ekiti, Imo, Abia, and several other states. The agency warned that the southern states expecting moderate to heavy rainfall may experience flash flooding.

NiMet cautioned that the rains may be accompanied by strong winds, which could pose a risk to weak structures, trees, and masts. The public is advised to avoid driving through floodwaters due to the danger of undercurrents.

Additionally, the agency recommends that residents disconnect electrical appliances before the rains begin to reduce the risk of electrical hazards.

Other potential dangers highlighted include slippery roads and reduced visibility during downpours which could severely disrupt road traffic.

NiMet urged the public to remain alert and take necessary precautions as the rainy conditions persist.
