ISWAP Attack in Borno Community Leads to Casualties

At least six villagers were killed in an attack by suspected ISWAP terrorists in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno State. The incident occurred around 4:30 pm on Saturday when the victims were ambushed while gathering firewood in the Bokko-Ghide/Ngoshe bush, according to Zagazola Makama, a publication focused on the Lake Chad region.
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai visited the scene and evacuated the six fatally injured victims to a nearby hospital, where they were confirmed dead by a medical doctor. The victims were identified as Ibrahim Kursu (45), Malam Ahmadu (50), Abba Zake (35), Hawwala Zake (40), Bukar Umaru (38), and Ishaku Naga (50), all from Pulka, Gwoza LGA. Three other individuals, Bukar Alhaji (42), Wada Maina (50), and Adamu Idrissa, managed to escape into nearby bushes during the attack and have since safely returned to their families. Preliminary investigations indicated that nine people were involved in the firewood collection outing.
In a separate incident, two members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) were reportedly killed while conducting routine patrols along the Pulka-Kirawa road in the state. This incident occurred around 5:30 pm on Saturday when assailants opened fire on the CJTF patrol team, leaving several others injured. The bodies of the two victims, identified as Abba Aja and Shetima Abbaye, have been released to their families for burial in line with Islamic rites.
Zagazola Makama, a security analyst, reported that the armed assailants ambushed the residents who left their homes to collect firewood. News also highlighted Borno governor's call for a boost in irrigated farming and Tinubu's directive for new actions to end killings in Benue, Kwara, and Plateau. The PFN also urged Tinubu to stop killings as Nigeria's commander-in-chief.
