Nigerian Supreme Islamic Council Asks Muslims To Look Out For Moon, Yet To Announce End Of Fast

SaharaReporters earlier reported that the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia confirmed the moon sighting, signaling the end of Ramadan 1446 and the beginning of Shawwal.

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has urged Nigerians to look out for the moon after sunset today.

The NSCIA shared this update on its X handle moments ago, indicating that the moon has not yet been sighted in Nigeria.

This development follows Saudi Arabia's announcement that March 30th will mark the day for Eid-el-Fitr.

"The President-General of the NSCIA enjoins the Nigerian Muslim Ummah to search for the crescent of Shawwal 1446 A.H. immediately after sunset today, Saturday, 29th Ramadan 1446 A.H — March 29, 2025," the NSCIA posted on its X handle.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia confirmed the moon sighting, signaling the end of Ramadan 1446 and the beginning of Shawwal.

As a result, Muslims in Saudi Arabia and several other countries that follow its lunar calendar will celebrate Eid Al-Fitr tomorrow.

Eid Al-Fitr, also known as the "Festival of Breaking the Fast," is one of the most significant Islamic holidays, marking the conclusion of a month of fasting, prayer, and reflection.

The occasion is traditionally celebrated with special prayers, feasts, and acts of charity.

Muslim-majority nations and communities worldwide will now determine their moon sighting results, as some countries may celebrate Eid on different days depending on local sightings.
