It was learnt that the student was freed by police operatives in Dakingari Forest, Suru Local Government Area, after security forces tracked and pursued the kidnappers.

Augustine Madubiya, a 400-level student of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK), who was abducted from an off-campus hostel has been reportedly rescued.

It was learnt that the student was freed by police operatives in Dakingari Forest, Suru Local Government Area, after security forces tracked and pursued the kidnappers.

The Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Tafida, alongside the Commissioner of Police, Sani Bello, and the Vice Chancellor of FUBK, Professor Zaiyan Muhammad, visited the off-campus hostel where the abduction occurred.

While addressing the public on Thursday, the Deputy Governor reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of students in all tertiary institutions across Kebbi.

He disclosed that the rescued student had been taken to the hospital for medical evaluation.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani Bello, provided further details, stating that the kidnappers abandoned the victim due to sustained pressure from security operatives.

He confirmed that no ransom was paid for the student’s release.

Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor, Prof Zaiyan Muhammad, highlighted the challenge of inadequate hostel accommodation, which has forced many students to live off-campus, making them vulnerable to security threats.

He appealed to philanthropists and stakeholders to support the university in expanding its hostel facilities.

Both the state government and the police assured residents that security around the university and its environs would be strengthened to prevent future incidents.
