News on Esther Wanyuru's Death

Kasipul MP Charles Ong'ondo Were died from excessive bleeding due to five gunshot wounds inflicted by unknown gunmen on April 30. An autopsy conducted by Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor confirmed that the bullets tore through his vital organs, including the heart, lungs, liver, and aorta. The MP was attacked along Ngong Road in Nairobi. According to Dr. Oduor, the lawmaker died from excessive bleeding and the collapse of vital organs. The pathologist noted that some bullets tore through Were's vital organs. The wounds on the late MP's hands indicate that he tried to shield himself during the attack.
Four suspects, William Imoli, Juma Ali Haikai, Douglas Wachiri Wambugu, and David Kagame, were arraigned at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Law Courts in connection with the murder. The prosecution requested that each suspect be held at different police stations to prevent collusion and interference with evidence. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) sought a 30-day detention extension for detectives to finalize their investigations, allowing them to examine the suspects’ mobile phones and gather further evidence. Police recovered a vehicle and three motorbikes believed to have been used by the suspects to flee the scene.
Investigations also revealed that some suspects are linked to a criminal gang in Nairobi's Eastlands region, known as Mjahidin. A key suspect, believed to have fired the fatal shot, was arrested along Thika Road and was found in possession of an Administration Police Service (APS) Certificate of Appointment. The suspect claimed to be a serving police officer but had not reported for duty recently. His credentials were forwarded to APS headquarters for verification.
In a separate incident, Esther Wanyuru, a beloved figure in Kikuyu entertainment, died suddenly in Makadara, Nairobi. She rose to fame in the 2000s through popular Kikuyu comedy skits. Wanyuru died under unclear circumstances while planning her grandchild’s birthday party. She was found unconscious in the bathroom and pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Esther Wanyuru played the witty wife of Machang'i in the comedy series and had taken a step back from acting to focus on her business as a fruit vendor.
President William Ruto vowed to bring those responsible for the assassination of MP Charles Ong'ondo Were to justice, condemning the act as an attack on the nation’s stability. The court granted a 30-day detention order for the suspects to allow for further investigations.
