The 2025 NBA Playoffs will see a new champion for the seventh year in a row, marking a big change in the balance of power in the league. With the usual favourites, including the Boston Celtics, already knocked out, four fresh teams are now in the race: the New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Indiana Pacers.

Knicks and Thunder Chasing History

The New York Knicks haven’t won an NBA title since 1973. Now, with a strong playoff run, the team and fans in New York are dreaming big. Excitement is growing as the Knicks aim to bring the trophy back to Madison Square Garden after more than 50 years.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are also hoping to make history. Since moving from Seattle in 2008, they have never won an NBA title. Their only championship came in 1979 when they were still the Seattle SuperSonics. Star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led them to a big Game 7 win over the Denver Nuggets, scoring 35 points and helping force 23 turnovers. Teammate Jalen Williams added 24 points in the impressive victory.

Timberwolves and Pacers: Surprise Contenders

The Minnesota Timberwolves have never won an NBA title. But this year, led by young star Anthony Edwards, they have surprised many by beating strong teams like the Los Angeles Lakers. Their mix of strong defence and fast-paced attack has made them a tough team to face.

The Indiana Pacers are also chasing their first NBA championship. While they were successful during the ABA days, they have yet to win in the NBA. Tyrese Haliburton has been a key player for them, helping the team reach the Conference Finals with big performances.

A New Era Begins

As the Conference Finals approach, fans can look forward to a brand-new name on the trophy. With four hungry teams left and none of them having won in recent years, the NBA is about to enter a new chapter in its history.
