NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament 3rd Round Preview: Redlands vs. Hampden-Sydney - D3hoops
The University of Redlands men's basketball team has reached the NCAA Tournament Third Round for the first time in program history after defeating Saint Joseph's College of Maine and Tufts University in the first two rounds last weekend in Massachusetts. They now travel to New York, New York for a matchup with No. 11 Hampden-Sydney College on Friday, March 14 at 1:30 p.m. pacific daylight time (PDT).
The Bulldogs have reached rarified air with their 24 wins, tying them with the 1959-60 season and placing them three wins off the record of 27 from 1960-61.
The Tigers are 23-5 overall with a 9-2 mark away from home. They qualified for the tournament as an at-large team after they lost in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Quarterfinals to the University of Lynchburg. Then, as the host, defeated Bryn Athyn College, 102-66, and University of Pittsburg at Bradford, 81-75, in the first two rounds of the tournament.

The two potential opponents for a quarterfinal, if the Bulldogs win, are the host and No. 2 New York University (NYU) or No. 74 Hardin-Simmons University (HSU). The game will be played at NYU on Saturday, March 15 at 4:30 p.m. PDT.
NYU is 26-1 with a 14-1 home record. The Bulldogs and Violets last met in November 2023 inside Currier Gym where NYU won 82-79.
HSU is 20-9 with a 10-3 road record and a 5-2 neutral site record. The Cowboys and Bulldogs lone meeting came in December when the Bulldogs won 97-89 in Las Vegas.
