NBS: Petrol price increased to N1,239.33 in April - up by 76% in one year

In its report, tagged ‘Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) Price Watch (April 2025),’ released on April 20, the NBS said the pump price rose by 76.73 percent from N701.24 recorded in the corresponding month last year.

“Likewise, comparing the average price value with the previous month (.i.e. March 2025), the average retail price decreased by 1.77% from N1261.65,” the bureau said.

On state profile analysis, NBS said Imo state had the highest average retail price for petrol, at N1,588.50, Jigawa and Sokoto states were next, with N1,567.84 and N1,550.00, respectively.

“Conversely, Yobe, Kwara and Osun State had the lowest average retail prices for Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol), at N970.00, N1014.85, and N1042.49 respectively,” NBS said.

“Lastly, on the Zonal profile, the South East Zone had the highest average retail price of N1341.71, while the South West Zone had the lowest price of N1138.64.”

On May 12, the Dangote refinery the ex-depot petrol price to N825 per litre.

The next day, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited the price of petrol across its retail outlets in Abuja.
