The moves are official, according to a team press release relayed by The Athletic’s Jovan Buha (Twitter link).
The are converting ‘s two-way contract to a standard deal, ESPN’s Shams Charania tweets. Goodwin will become playoff-eligible as a result of the promotion.
It’s a two-year deal with a team option for next season, NBA insider Chris Haynes tweets. To make room for Goodwin on the 15-man roster, the Lakers are waving , Haynes adds in another tweet.
Not only are two-way players ineligible to play in the postseason but Goodwin had reached his active game limit on Tuesday when he played against Indiana. The 6’5″ guard, who played for three different organizations in his first three NBA seasons, has emerged as a steady contributor the last two months for the Lakers.
Goodwin appeared in eight February games, averaging 6.1 points and 3.8 rebounds in 16.9 minutes per contest. He’s seen action in 11 games this month, posting averages of 6.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 23 minutes per night.
The 26-year-old signed his two-way deal in early February after toiling for the G League’s South Bay Lakers until he landed another NBA contract.
Reddish was part of the rescinded deal with Charlotte. After being returned to the Lakers, Reddish appeared in just two games. His most recent appearance came last Thursday when he logged 22 minutes of action against Milwaukee, his highest single-game total since Christmas Day.
Reddish was playing on an expiring contract after exercising his minimum-salary option on this season’s contract. Overall, he appeared in 33 games with the Lakers in 2024/25, including eight starts. He averaged 3.2 points in 17.8 minutes per game. The 2019 lottery pick has played for four organizations.
Since the deadline for two-way signings was on March 4, the Lakers won’t be able to add a new two-way player to fill the opening created by Goodwin’s promotion.
The have moved within a half-game of seventh-place Atlanta for the top seed in the Eastern Conference play-in tournament. That’s due in large part to ‘s resurgence. Their star forward has reached the 30-point mark in four consecutive games, including three victories.
In 16 games following the All-Star break, Banchero is second in the league in scoring (29.6 PPG) behind only MVP favorite (34.1).
“I’m playing some good basketball right now,” he told Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel. “[I] just want to keep it up.”
We have more from the Southeast Division:
guard underwent successful surgery on Wednesday to repair the ACL tear in his left knee, the team announced on its website.
The procedure had been expected since Irving was diagnosed with a torn ACL on March 4 after sustaining that knee injury one day earlier. Typically, ACL surgery is delayed by a few weeks in order to allow the swelling and inflammation in the player’s knee to subside to some extent.
The Mavericks’ announcement doesn’t provide a specific recovery timeline for Irving, simply stating that updates on his status will be provided as appropriate. However, the start of the NBA’s 2025/26 season is less than seven months away and the recovery period for this sort of surgery typically extends beyond that, so it seems relatively safe to assume the star guard won’t be ready for opening night in the fall.
Irving, who turned 33 on Sunday, holds a player option worth nearly $43MM for the 2025/26 season. If the Mavs are interested in working out a longer-term deal while he recovers from his knee surgery, he’ll have multiple contract options, including declining that option to sign a new contract or exercising the option and extending off of it.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the Southwest Division, the announced in a press release that wing also went under the knife on Wednesday in order to repair the torn labrum in his right shoulder.
Murphy sustained his injury, which included a partial tear of his rotator cuff, on March 17, ending his season. He becomes the second Pelicans starter to undergo shoulder surgery already this year, joining teammate .
According to the Pelicans’ release, Murphy is expected to make a full recovery following his surgery. But the team doesn’t specify whether or not he’ll be available for the start of the 2025/26 season, stating – like the Mavs with Irving – that further details will be “appropriately provided.”
As we wrote last week, Pelicans guard ‘s recovery from an Achilles tear is expected to extend well into ’25/26 and it remains possible that Murphy and/or Jones will also have their season debuts delayed next fall. While it’s too early to pinpoint a return date for either player at this point, it will be worth keeping an eye out for any updates on their respective rehab processes this spring and summer.
Murphy, coming off a breakout year in which he averaged 21.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game on .454/.361/.887 shooting, signed a four-year, $112MM rookie scale extension last fall. That contract will go into effect this July.
As we relayed on Wednesday, Warriors forward took over this week as the new betting favorite for Defensive Player of the Year honors, surpassing Cavaliers big man .
Mobley’s teammates and head coach disagree that Green should be considered the frontrunner and Zach Harper of The Athletic sides with the Cavs’ contingent, placing Mobley ahead of Green (and Hawks guard ) on his hypothetical ballot in his latest look at this season’s award races.
With just over two weeks left in the 2024/25 season, Harper currently has ahead of in the MVP race, ahead of for Rookie of the Year, ahead of for Sixth Man of the Year, over for Coach of the Year, and over Mobley for Most Improved Player.

Following the ‘ seventh loss in 10 games, a 118-106 defeat to Orlando on Monday, All-Star guard took some accountability for the club’s recent struggles. As Dave McMenamin of ESPN writes, Doncic believes that it falls to him and fellow All-Star to lead the Lakers out of this stretch.
Both players missed multiple contests during this 3-7 run, which also included a rough slate of six games played in eight days. Doncic sat out two games due to an ankle ailment, while James was shelved for seven with a groin issue.
“I think me and Bron, think we should be the guys to do that,” Doncic said. “That’s on me. Obviously, I’ve got to do better, I’ve got to talk more. I talked in the first half, then just kind of [let my] voice down and I shouldn’t do that.”
Los Angeles got back in the win column on Wednesday, defeating Indiana 120-119 on the road with a buzzer-beating James tip-in off a Doncic miss. They’ll face off against Chicago on Thursday night in the second game of a back-to-back slate.

After facing a lot of high-level competition and working through a tough schedule early into the 2024/25 season, the have seen their slate during the year’s home stretch get significantly easier — just as they’ve been looking to stack up losses.
Toronto is hoping to cement its bid for the best possible lottery odds in this summer’s draft, but playing fellow rebuilding squads could complicate that plan, writes Michael Grange of Sportsnet.ca.
To wit, Grange notes that the Raptors are still scheduled to play Charlotte and Brooklyn twice each, and have one more game against seemingly lottery-bound clubs in Philadelphia, San Antonio, Portland, Chicago and Dallas as the season winds down.
As of this writing, the 25-47 Raptors have the seventh-worst record in the league. They could conceivably overtake the 23-49 Nets and Sixers – and maybe even the 20-53 Pelicans – in the lottery order if they play their cards “right.”

Three-time MVP center is returning to the hardwood for Denver’s Wednesday clash with the , the team has announced (via Twitter).
The 6’11” superstar had been on the shelf for Denver since the club’s 126-123 loss against Washington on March 15 due to a left ankle impingement.
Milwaukee, conversely, will be missing both of its nine-time All-Stars — plus two rotational big men, to boot.
Bucks guard is out indefinitely due to a blood clot in his right calf. He’ll be joined on the bench by two-time MVP forward , who’s dealing with a sprained left foot, Milwaukee announced today (Twitter link).
Jokic is angling to pick up his fourth MVP honor across the last five years. He’s averaging a triple-double for the 45-28 Nuggets, with excellent shooting efficiency. The seven-time All-Star is averaging 29.1 PPG, 12.8 RPG, 10.3 APG, 1.8 SPG and 0.7 BPG. He’s connecting on .575/.413/.807 shooting splits.
Denver has also made Jokic’s fellow starters , and available. Braun is dealing with a left foot strain, Porter has a strained low back, and Gordon is managing a right calf injury plus a left ankle sprain.
The absences of Antetokounmpo and Lillard are compounded by the long-term unavailability of sixth man big (suspension) and reserve center Jericho Sims (thumb surgery), both out until at least April.
Knicks wing Josh Hart and All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns both logged triple-doubles during a historic performance against the reeling Mavericks on Tuesday night, writes Chris Herring of ESPN. Hart and Towns became the first New York players to simultaneously achieve the feat, Herring writes.
In the 128-113 win, Towns racked up 26 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists. Hart, meanwhile, had 16 points, 12 boards, and 11 dimes. Herring reports that this marked just the 17th time ever that two NBA teammates secured triple-doubles in the same game.
It was also Hart’s ninth triple-double of the 2024/25 season, besting Hall of Famer Walt Frazier‘s previous single-season Knicks record of eight in 1968/69. This is Towns’ first triple double of the year.
“I didn’t envision this,” Hart said. “This is more than I ever dreamed of.”
“[Hart’s] got nine this season; I’ve got one,” Towns remarked. “But the way he does it is special. It’s always with effort and for the betterment of the team. I’m just happy there’s a way to see on the stat sheet the impact he’s having on the game. He sacrifices so much for the team, so I’m happy that he can have this moment.”

Hawks forward Larry Nance Jr. is expected to miss the rest of Atlanta’s 2024/25 regular season as he continues to rehabilitate from a lingering right medial femoral condyle fracture, the team has announced (via Twitter). Nance initially suffered the injury on February 10 against Orlando.
The Hawks indicated they’ll provide an update on Nance’s status after the regular season concludes next month.
At 35-37 on the year, the Hawks are currently the Eastern Conference’s No. 7 seed. They are 10 games clear of the No. 11-seeded Raptors, so they’ve essentially clinched a play-in tournament berth.
Assuming Atlanta survives the play-in as either a No. 7 or No. 8 seed in the East and qualifies for the actual playoffs, the wording of today’s announcement seems to indicate there’s a chance the club could add Nance back to the fold in the postseason.
The 6’8″ big man has battled injuries and has seen a limited role even when healthy for the Hawks this season. In the 24 contests he’s played, the Wyoming alum logged averages of 8.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game during his first season with Atlanta. He was acquired as part of the Hawks’ offseason deal that sent former guard Dejounte Murray to New Orleans.
Nance is now the fourth Hawks player who will miss at least the end of the regular season. Most critically, starting forward Jalen Johnson tore the labrum in his left shoulder in January. Reserve center Clint Capela injured a ligament in the fourth metacarpal of his left hand last week, and is expected to be back in three-to-four weeks — i.e. at the end of the regular season. Guard Kobe Bufkin underwent surgery for a right shoulder instability in December.
