According to eyewitnesses, the driver’s vehicle had stalled on the road, prompting him to walk to the nearby petrol station to get fuel.
However, tragedy struck when he was returning to his car as he collapsed and died on the spot.
Bystanders reported that before his death, the driver mentioned that he lived in Umoja and had earlier dropped off a passenger in Kamulu.
In his final moments, he handed over his car keys and phone to a woman nearby before losing consciousness.
His body has since been taken to the mortuary at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital.
The incident has left fellow drivers and area residents in shock and sorrow, mourning the sudden loss of their colleague.
Martin Reuben:
"That must be just pressure. Seeing that he didn't even have fuel. If it's true, it's a matter of stress, man."
Khwa Timonah:
"If you tell the driver to unite and help each other, others ask you to leave if you are tired. The pressure of this job can kill a person."
Mathew Githinji:
"The stress on Uber drivers is too much. The drivers should do something to end this suffering."
Michael Wamiatu:
"Fellow drivers, take care of your body first. Rest, switch off these monsters even if it's one day, and take time to walk around to prevent high blood pressure and blood clots."
Authorities are currently handling the matter as the deceased’s family prepares for the unexpected funeral.
