As the Lunar New Year ushers in celebrations across Asia, is marking a year of exceptional growth on its long-haul routes to the Far East. In 2024, the Bavarian hub welcomed an impressive 2.6 million passengers traveling to and from 11 countries in Central, South, and East Asia. This figure represents a remarkable 38.7% increase compared to 2023, underscoring the airport’s position as a key gateway to Asia.

The summer season proved particularly dynamic, with 105 weekly departures to Asian destinations. Among the standout routes, Bangkok emerged as the most sought-after destination, closely followed by Singapore and Beijing, reflecting strong demand for travel to these iconic locations.

Munich Airport’s success lies in its strategic mix of established and newly-launched flight connections. A prime example is EVA Air’s four weekly non-stop flights to Taipei, which have seen steady success over the past two years. Vietnam Airlines also bolstered connectivity with the introduction of flights to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in October 2024.

The momentum is set to continue in 2025, with exciting new offerings starting in June. In addition to Lufthansa, ten Far Eastern carriers, including the renowned premium airline Cathay Pacific, will further strengthen Munich’s links to Asia. This growing network highlights the airport’s critical role as an international hub for travelers heading to and from the region.

Munich Airport’s cargo operations have also seen significant growth, with East Asia accounting for one-third of intercontinental freight volumes. In 2024 alone, the airport handled a staggering 105,000 tons of cargo destined for Asia, demonstrating its importance not only for passengers but also for global trade.

In honor of the Lunar New Year, Munich Airport is offering special tiered discounts at various airport shops, providing travelers with exciting shopping opportunities. These promotions will run through the end of March 2025, adding an extra touch of celebration for passengers passing through the airport.

With an expanding network, strong passenger growth, and thriving cargo operations, Munich Airport continues to solidify its position as a premier European gateway to Asia.
