MSGM looked towards the city cyclists - HERO

Published 1 day ago1 minute read

This season, Massimo Giorgetti’s MSGM opted for a lookbook rather than a runway show for their SS26 menswear collection, drawing sartorial inspiration from the world of cycling. Cyclewear is sweeping through the fashion world at the moment. The latest edition of Pitti Uomo, which ended just a day before MSGM’s collection release, was themed around cycling, while smaller brands such as Fashion East alumna Johanna Parv also look to the cyclist’s wardrobe for inspiration. However, we’re far from MAMIL (Middle-Aged Man in Lycra) territory here; MSGM’s SS26 collection focused on a distinctly cooler milieu: the young street cyclists of Milan.

Enlisting the help of cycling collective 24.7 Fastlife, the collection consisted mostly of extremely casual wear that wouldn’t hinder you whilst you wheelied through the streets of Milan. There were plenty of t-shirts and shorts, as well as intentionally oil-stained baggy trousers. Several pieces featured photographic prints, some of which were taken by Giorgetti himself during bike rides. Mesh fabrics and workwear-inspired silhouettes also ran through the collection. Towards the latter end of the lookbook, we saw glimpses of suiting styled with casual shirts worn underneath or featuring fluorescent piping, just in case you needed to bike your way to a formal event.
