
The Managing Director of Vivo Energy Ghana, Christian Li, has entreated workers to renew their mindset and be committed to upholding high safety standards at the workplace.
“Established systems and advanced technology alone cannot keep workers and those around them safe but the willingness to grow, learn and act responsibly at all times can ensure workers safety,” Mr Li said.
Speaking at this year’s Safety Day and Awards ceremony last Friday at Tema, Mr Li, stressed that while established systems and technology are good measures that alone cannot secure the worker the needed safety at the workplace.
The annual event seeks to honour individuals, contractors and transporters who had demonstrated exceptional commitment to safety in their line of duty.
The event themed ‘‘growth mindset: competent and committed” was also to commend workers and partners of the company for their hard work, dedication and commitment towards operating without recording any major incident or damage in their operations.
Messrs J. K. Horgle Transport Company Limited was adjudged the overall Haulier transporter for the year 2024 while the best contractor went to Universal Engineering.
The awardees were presented with fridges, plaques and certificates for their commitment and hard work.
The MD indicated that there is the need for workers to reinforce the commitment and a growing mindset towards ensuring that safety is not just a prioritising but a daily exhibited culture at workplaces.
According to him, the Vivo Energy Ghana had invested in developing a comprehensive competence management system and a learning and developing portal to enable employees acquires the right skills and knowledge to do their work properly and safely.
Mr Li said though there are devices and technology that workers can leverage on, it is important that workers continuously learn to update themselves to avoid facing risks.
The Deputy Managing Director of J.K. Horgle Transport Limited, Elinam Horgle, said her company’s achievement was an endorsement of all the hard work that their team in the company has put in over the years.
Ms Horgle said the trainings and constant reminders from Vivo Energy Ghana gives to them about safety first and quality assurance are part of the reasons why we become a better.
Mr Rob Foyle, Head of Communication, Vivo Energy Group, said his outfit plan to replicate the awards in all 28 countries across Africa where they operate.
He indicated that some of the areas the company would be focusing on educating their members for this year include process safety, contractor and environmental management, road transport, retail security, high risk work and CBSP’s, occupational health, quality among others for this year.
