The Olofin of Isheri, Oba Sulaimon Bamgbade (Ayodele III), has appealed to the Lagos and Ogun State Governments, as well as the Federal Government, to support heritage initiatives that protect and promote the Awori history and identity.

Oba Bamgbade urged the government to support the kingdom in turning Isheri Olofin into a cultural tourism destination and a hub for economic empowerment.

The monarch made the call at the annual Aje Olofin Festival, a cultural and spiritual celebration said to date back to 1425, according to statement released by the Palace Media Team on Friday.

“The Awori people have played a vital role in the development of Lagos and Ogun States. We now seek visible support to preserve our history, empower our youth, and transform our cultural potential into economic prosperity for our communities,” the monarch said.

He called for increased investment in infrastructure, cultural tourism, and heritage sites, emphasising the need for sustainable partnerships between government agencies, private investors, and cultural institutions.

The monarch further advocated for the inclusion of the Aje Olofin Festival in the national tourism calendar, reiterating his vision to develop Isheri Olofin into a model for cultural education, historical tourism, and inclusive growth across Nigeria.

He also underscored the need to safeguard Awori culture for generations to come.

“The Aje Olofin Festival is a powerful reminder of our ancestry, our unity, and our blessings. This celebration is not just about our past, but about our shared future as a people,” he said.

The celebration featured traditional rites, cultural performances, and showcase of Awori identity. It drew traditional leaders, government officials, cultural advocates, and guests from across Nigeria and the diaspora, all in celebration of Awori heritage.

The festival also welcomed notable dignitaries, including HRH, Queen Folashade Ashley, the Olori of Ooni, who represented the Ooni of Ife.

Also present were Kussimo Idris, Executive Chairman of Ifo Local Government, and a delegation from the Ogun State Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
Addressing attendees, the Lisa of Isheri and Chairman of the Planning Committee, Hon. Oladipupo Rasheed Aro, commended sponsors, supporters, and the Isheri community for making this celebration ‘peaceful, colorful, and impactful’.
