Troops of the Nigerian military attached with Northeast Operation Hadin Kai have avenged the killings of their colleagues by overrunning notorious hideouts of the criminals in the Sambisa forests.

It was learnt the troops, who were mandated to reinforce more aggressive officers in response to colleagues’ killings, targeted the strongholds of the terrorists in Garin Malam Ali, Garin Glucose and Ukuba.

Daily Trust had reported on Wednesday that no fewer than four soldiers were killed by the suspected Boko Haram terrorists, who launched coordinated attacks on three military bases in Rann, Gajiram and Dikwa in Borno State.

Security and local sources confirmed that all the attacks happened in the early hours of Tuesday, stating that the insurgents lost many fighters in Dikwa and Gajiram, where the military repelled their attacks.

Sources within the military revealed that the operation, which lasted more than 6 hours commenced at about 6am on Wednesday and ended around 12noon on Thursday, leading to killing of several terrorists.

One of the senior officers, who participated in the operation confided in Daily Trust Thursday evening that the operation was jointly carried with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).

According to the senior officer, who did not want his name in print because he wasn’t authorised to speak, explained that the operation was not an easy task to carry out, saying they were all happy it was later successful.

“The operation continues. We are battle-ready, we must win the war. It hasn’t been easy but with the support of those mean well for the country, we shall continue the war.

“Today (Thursday), some of them fled with bullet wounds and they left their weapons including IED-making equipment, while many of them were neutralised,” the senior officer told our correspondent.

The Chief Military Information Officer at Headquarters of Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) at N’djamena, Chad, Olaniyi Osoba, confirmed the operation during a chat.

Osoba, a Lieutenant-Colonel, said, “Yes, troops of NorthEast Operation Hadin Kai and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) overran a terrorist hideout in Sambisa Forest on 15 May 2025.

“The terrorists fled, leaving behind arms, ammunition, and IED-making equipment. The operation is part of an ongoing effort to exploit the Sambisa Forest and counter terrorist activities.”
