Atiku Abubakar, a former presidential flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has claimed that Nigerians presidents who came after Olusegun Obasanjo, are to be blames for the rise of Boko Haram in the country.

Under Obasanjo, Atiku served as vice-president from 1999 to 2007.

“You remember when the Boko Haram started in Yobe? It was actually in 2002,” he said in a clip shared on his official Facebook page, during the visit of stakeholders from Kogi East Senatorial District.

“The president sent for me.”

Atiku revealed that during the meeting he and Obasanjo summoned the Service Chiefs and gave them a deadline.

According to him, Boko Haram never came up until they left office, after the militants were eliminated “within a few weeks”.

Atiku further accused successive leaders of failing to act decisively since Obasanjo left office.

“They’re killing your citizens and you don’t give a damn.

“That is the greatest irresponsibility by any political leader, anywhere,” he said.
