Officials Suspended Amid Investigations

Several high-profile individuals have been implicated in corruption-related incidents across different sectors. At the University of Nairobi, senior council members, including Prof. Amukowa Anangwe, have been arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on allegations of abuse of office. The charges stem from the unlawful re-appointment of Brian Ouma as Chief Operations Officer. The arrested individuals were processed at the EACC headquarters and are scheduled to appear before the Milimani Law Court.
EACC Chairperson Bishop David Oginde has urged Kenyan professionals to actively combat corruption, emphasizing that their expertise is often exploited to enable unethical practices. Speaking at a high-level dialogue in Nairobi, hosted by the Architects Alliance, Oginde highlighted that significant corruption requires technical support, such as falsified designs, inflated budgets, or ignored safety standards. The dialogue brought together industry leaders to address ethical challenges and reinforce the need to maintain public trust.
In South Africa, three officials from the Office of the Chief Justice (OCJ) in the Pretoria high court have been placed on precautionary suspension. This action follows an investigation by the Hawks into allegations of fraudulent and corrupt activities within the court. The Hawks conducted a search and seizure operation, targeting an office and individual suspected of issuing fraudulent court documents to undocumented foreigners, preventing their deportation. Exhibits were seized, and the officials were suspended to ensure the investigation proceeds without compromise. The OCJ has stated it has zero-tolerance policy towards fraud and corruption.
