Migori: 5 Killed as Speeding Lorry Loaded with Maize Rams into Motorcycles

At least five people have been confirmed dead following a horrible accident in Mabera, Migori county.

Confirming the incident, Kuria West Sub-County Police Commander Reuben Bett told TUKO.co.ke that the accident occurred at 7.50 pm on Sunday, January 19 at Ragana Bridge in Mabera Centre.
Bett stated the terrible accident occurred after a lorry overloaded with maize from Sirare lost control and rammed into two motorbikes and pedestrians.
"On Sunday night at around 7:50 pm a lorry carrying maize rammed into pedestrians and motorcycle killing five instantly at Ragana bridge in Maber center," Bett said.
Five people died on the spot, while two other people were also injured in the accident and were rushed to Isebania Hospital for further treatment
"The bodies of the deceased were moved to Akidiva hospital morgue," the stated.
According to eyewitnesses, Nelson Mukobe Francis, the lorry was at high speed and rammed into two bicycles, killing the deceased.
One of the motorbikes was carrying two female teachers, along with a pedestrian, all who were positively identified.
"We were at the center and the lorry was coming in high speed, it seemed to have lost control and rammed into the pedestrians," Mukobe said.
The residents called on leaders to come out and complete the killer bridge that needs pedestrian paths to help avoid such accidents.
"This bridge is a narrow and it's putting the lives of our people in danger, it needs to be expanded and footbridge and bumps," Thomas Nyamose a resident said.
In a separate incident, a family in Rongo, Migori county, was mourning the tragic death of Pastor Ken Odira, who died in a motorbike collision.
The accident occurred on Saturday, November 2. Odira was returning from church when his motorbike collided with another coming from Kisii, causing severe head injuries.
Beryl Odira, the sister of Pastor Ken Odira, expressed shock and sorrow over her brother's sudden death. In an interview with , she recounted the events following the accident.
The deceased, a solo artist, studied Theology at Bugema University in Uganda while serving as a pastor at Misida District in Rangwe. He was highly respected for his inspiring teachings and sermons.
Beryl shared that her brother had been preparing to formalise his marriage plans.
Pastor Odira’s body was moved from Tenwek Hospital to the Gendia Mission Hospital mortuary for further examinations.
