The music world lost a giant on Wednesday, as Brian Wilson's family announced that the "Beach Boys’" co-founder died at the age of 82. The announcement of Wilson's passing has led to countless tributes for the late songwriter, who is considered one of the most influential musicians in modern history.

The New York Mets played their part in honoring Wilson. According to Andy Martino of SportsNet New York, the Mets played the Beach Boys' "I Get Around" during the top of the third inning of Wednesday's game against the Washington Nationals at Citi Field in Queens.

That track, from the 1964 album "All Summer Long," was the first Beach Boys song to hit No. 1 on the Billboard Pop charts.

As for the game itself, the Mets surfed their way to a 5-0 victory over the visiting Nationals. Pete Alonso gave New York some early good vibrations with an RBI double in the first inning.

Juan Soto followed that up in the third inning when he got around the bases, thanks to a two-run home run. Brandon Nimmo added to New York's offense with solo homers in the fifth and seventh innings. On the mound, David Peterson pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just six hits and recording six punchouts through 106 pitches.

The Mets, 44-24, extended their win streak to five games and will look to stretch that this Thursday when they give the ball to Kodai Senga. Meanwhile, the Nationals are scheduled to send Michael Soroka to the mound for the series finale.
