Master Character Creation for Production | CG Channel
The Gnomon Workshop has released Character Creation for Production, a detailed guide to creating 3D characters recorded by Character Artist Antonio Mossucca.
The intermediate-level workshop provides a over eight and half hours of video training in ZBrush, Maya, Marvelous Designer and Substance 3D Painter.
In the workshop, Mossucca reveals his workflow for creating a VFX or animation production-quality character, from initial 2D concept to final 3D render.
He begins by explaining his approach to ideation and gathering reference material, before sculpting the character – an anthropomorphic frog – in ZBrush.
Mossucca then covers how to create 3D clothing in Marvelous Designer, texture the character in Substance 3D Designer, and create portfolio renders using Maya and Arnold.
As well as the tutorial videos, viewers of the workshop can download project files including Mossucca’s ZBrush user interface and shortcuts, his ACEScg LUT files to use in Photoshop, plus scripts for use in XGen and mGear for character rigging.
Antonio Mossucca is a Character Artist who has worked for VFX and animation studios including Cinesite, Framestore, Scanline VFX, Jellyfish Pictures and Axis Studios.
His credits include Planet Dinosaur, Avengers: Endgame and Infinity War, The Commuter, The Adam Project, Black Adam, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
Character Creation for Production is available via a subscription to The Gnomon Workshop, which provides access to over 300 tutorials.
Subscriptions cost $57/month or $519/year. Free trials are available.
