Madhya Pradesh Tourism: Madhya Pradesh and France Forge Cultural Ties to Enhance Global Tourism, ET TravelWorld
Madhya Pradesh has signed a tripartite MoU with France to foster deeper cultural and tourism cooperation. Signed in the presence of CM Dr Mohan Yadav and French Ambassador Dr Thierry Mathou, the agreement will promote Indo-French cultural exchange, boost tourist footfall, and offer global exposure to local artists. Key initiatives include language training, a shared cultural calendar, and joint events.

Madhya Pradesh is set to become a central hub for Indo-French tourism and cultural cooperation following the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the French government and Alliance Française de Bhopal. The agreement, formalised at the residence of Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, aims to deepen bilateral engagement through art, education, and heritage-based tourism.
The tripartite MoU was signed by Dr Thierry Mathou, Ambassador of France to India; Sheo Shekhar Shukla, Principal Secretary of Tourism and Culture for Madhya Pradesh; and Akhilesh Verma, President of Alliance Française de Bhopal. The three-year agreement is extendable and outlines mutual efforts to promote cultural diplomacy and strengthen tourism links.
“This MoU will elevate Madhya Pradesh to a global stage of culture and tourism,” said Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav. Highlighting India and France’s long-standing relationship, he noted that the partnership will also support industrial development, entrepreneurship, and traditional craftsmanship. A visit to France is being planned to further strengthen these ties.
Ambassador Dr Thierry Mathou welcomed the collaboration, calling it an important step in expanding shared priorities in tourism, education, and environmental awareness. He said the partnership will open up new pathways for both nations in cultural exchange and people-to-people engagement.
Planned initiatives include joint cultural festivals, music and dance performances, film screenings, and culinary showcases. A dedicated Indo-French Cultural Calendar will be prepared each year. Madhya Pradesh’s promotional materials will also be translated into French, with targeted campaigns aimed at European travellers. French language and culture training will be introduced for state tourism staff and guides to improve tourist experience.
The MoU is expected to boost international visibility for Madhya Pradesh’s artists and artisans, foster academic exchange, and reinforce the state’s position as a key player in global cultural tourism.
