While she was still hurting from her breakup with Adán, the duo formed a connection. Despite Dani looking for a boyfriend who also worked in a creative field, she fell for the police detective.

“For the first time in my life, I’m with someone who truly sees me,” Dani told the outlet, “Not just as an animator, not just as an advocate, not just as someone on the spectrum, but as Dani. And that? That’s the best feeling in the world.”

The Netflix star also shared what happened in her split from Adán after the pair dated for a year and a half.

Love on the Spectrum viewers witnessed trouble in the romance during season 3, when the public safety officer wanted to pull back from having any physical intimacy.

“I didn’t break up with Adán,” Dani told Tudum. “He broke up with me. Or at least, that’s how it felt. Because for a year and a half, he let me believe we were on the same page, that we were building something real together. And then, just like that, he pulled the rug out from under me.”

Dani said that during their final date, she felt blindsided when Adán wanted “to take a step backward — no kissing, no intimacy, nothing.” She told the outlet that she had always been clear about her intentions when it came to a physical relationship and thought that they both wanted the same thing.

“It wasn’t just a breakup, I felt it was a betrayal,” she said. “He never gave me a chance to prepare for it, never hinted that his feelings had changed. Instead, he let me walk blindly into heartbreak, like a deer in the headlights, while he had already made up his mind.”

Adán told Tudum that his strong faith was one of the reasons he decided to pull the plug on Dani’s wish for an intimate relationship.

“For me, believing in God has been my strength, and my religious beliefs are what help me make sense of the pain that I’ve experienced in my life. My values have been shaped by my life and life experience,” he explained.

Adán added that his experience with dating Dani brought him new insight about relationships.

“I have learned that love is magical and beautiful,” he said. “I am confident that I will meet other girls that I can date and build a strong and honest relationship with. I do want to find love again. It happened once, it will happen again.”
