Sam George is the Minister of Communications Digitalisation, and Innovation
The Minister for Communications, Digitalisation and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has addressed the press regarding the rising cost of mobile data services in Ghana, a growing concern affecting millions of consumers and businesses across the country.
In his remarks on Tuesday June 10, 2025, the Minister directed telecommunications companies to implement a 10 to 15 percent increase in data bundle prices, effective July 1, 2025.
According to the government, the move is part of a broader review of pricing structures in the telecom sector, although specific details behind the adjustment have not been publicly disclosed.
The sector minister also reaffirmed his commitment to tackling the high cost of internet data, which he described as a significant barrier to digital inclusion, innovation, and economic growth.
He noted that his Ministry has initiated discussions with major telecom operators to explore ways to make data more affordable for Ghanaians.
These engagements, he explained, aim to understand the key cost drivers behind data pricing, including infrastructure investments, taxes, and regulatory fees and to identify policy levers that could support more competitive pricing.
