Liverpool has sent Hugo Ekitike transfer message as Alexander Isak on three-man list - Liverpool.com
Liverpool has identified three striker targets as Arne Slot plots one final splash in what has already been an exciting window for the Premier League champion, and has apparently told Hugo Ekitike to be patient and wait for the club to sell players before making a move.
The Reds have already splashed the cash on Florian Wirtz - in what could be a British transfer record - as well as Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong. But regardless of those additions, it's thought Liverpool still needs to sign a central striker.
Darwin Nunez has flattered to deceive and hasn't exactly repaid the transfer fee the Reds forked out for him in 2022. As a result, a move away for the Uruguayan is expected to be worked on in the coming weeks.
If Nunez is sold, it's expected the Reds will go all-out for a new striker. Despite splashing $159 million on Wirtz, taking its spending to over $200 million for the window so far, it's thought Liverpool could still end the summer in profit.
Caomhin Kelleher has already departed, Jarrel Quansah is set to depart and Luis Diaz, Federico Chiesa and Harvey Elliott are being linked with moves away.
Should all those deals materialize, as well as Nunez's departure, Liverpool would still have cash in the bank to burn.
And according to Sky Sports Germany, Liverpool has identified Ekitike, Alexander Isak and Victor Osimhen as possible targets. Liverpool officials have apparently done their homework on all three and have worked out the feesability of a move.
Ekitike, however, has already been told by Liverpool that he'll have to be patient if he wants to secure a move to Merseyside this summer.
According to the report, Liverpool has told Ekitike that players will need to be sold to raise funds before a striker is signed.
Osimhen is facing an uncertain future at Napoli and seems destined to depart - considering the Italian champion has Antonio Conte-favorite Romelu Lukaku in that position already. He spent last season on loan at Galatasaray and has already rejected the Saudi Pro League.
Isak is undoubtedly the most expensive of the three options, considering Newcastle's owners, the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund, has already told Newcastle bosses not to accept any bids for their star man.
Isak would likely cost in excess of $200 million by himself, when wages, transfer fee and agent fees are added up, and it's unlikely Liverpool will commit to such an outlay.
However, one thing to consider would be that Liverpool will basically be unopposed in its bid for Isak, whereas Arsenal has been heavily linked with Ekitike and has been tipped to make a move in the coming weeks.
Arsenal finished second to Arne Slot's Reds last season and is in desperate need of a new striker ahead of the new season.
