Live updates as police make murder arrest after woman, 47, found dead

Published 12 hours ago2 minute read

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead in the early hours. And a cordon has gone up at the scene in Crewe as an investigation gets underway.

Cheshire Police say they were 'notified of a sudden death' at an address on Heron Crescent at around 2am this morning. Officers found a 47-year-old woman had died - with her family informed and currently being supported by specialist officers.

As part of the ongoing investigation a 53-year-old man, of Crewe, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody today. Meanwhile the force say they are currently treating the woman's death as 'unexplained' while a cordon remains up at the scene.

Senior officers have urged members of the public not to 'feed into speculation' on social media. Chief Superintendent Gareth Wrigley said: “I would like to reassure the local community that this is believed to be an isolated incident. One man has already been arrested and we still have enquiries ongoing.

“I would also like to ask the public not to feed into any speculation, particularly on social media, as this remains an ongoing investigation. There will be extra patrols conducted in the area to provide reassurance, so anyone with any concerns should to speak to an officer.

“As part of the ongoing investigation we are still keen to hear from anyone with any relevant information, CCTV or dash-cam footage that may aid us in our enquiries.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the constabulary on 101 and quote IML-2097168.
