Dr Mahamudu Bawumia
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 flagbearer and Vice President of Ghana, reportedly announced, during the party’s recent “Thank You Tour,” his intention to once again contest for the flagbearership to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.
Dr Yaw Adutwum
The former Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has also officially declared his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) flagbearer position.
In an interview with The 1967 News, he reflected on his journey in public service and reaffirmed his commitment to educational transformation and national development.
"As the party opens nominations for the flagbearership, I wish to contest," he declared.
Dr Bryan Acheampong
Former Minister of Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Dr Bryan Acheampong, also reportedly declared his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) flagbearer position ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Acheampong's decision was confirmed through a social media post by GHOne TV on Sunday, May 25, 2025, stating, "Bryan Acheampong to contest NPP flagbearership."
Additionally, a video post shared by Okay FM also reported that Acheampong will participate in the NPP presidential primaries and aims to represent the party in the 2028 elections.
Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has also officially declared his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer race for the 2028 elections.
He made this announcement on April 30, 2025, during an interview with UTV, stating emphatically, “I am going to contest, and nobody can stop me.”
Beyond individual ambitions, the upcoming primary presents an opportunity for the NPP to showcase internal democracy, reaffirm party unity, and articulate a renewed vision for Ghana's future.
