Kenyan lawyer Shadrack Wambui presented himself at Rongai Police Station on Monday, June 30, 2025, following summons by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in connection with the June 25 protests.

Wambui said he had gone to record a statement regarding events that took place during the demonstrations.

He stated that the protest was organised to seek justice for Kennedy Onyango, who died during last year’s demonstrations.

According to Wambui, the protest was held peacefully in Rongai by members of Sheria Mtaani na Shadrack Wambui.

He said the group had planned a candlelighting activity, which was disrupted by unknown individuals who infiltrated the protest.

“Kajiado North is headed in the right direction. We are believers in the rule of law and justice,” said Wambui.

Wambui, who has expressed interest in contesting the Kajiado North parliamentary seat in the 2027 elections, was accompanied to the police station by lawyers Danstan Omari and Cliff Ombeta.

Speaking at the station, Ombeta said the protest was lawful but had been disrupted by individuals with criminal intent.

“Shadrack has been summoned over a matter that appears to be politically motivated,” said Ombeta.

Omari noted that they had honoured the summons as law-abiding citizens and aimed to provide the DCI with additional information regarding the protest.

“Once we give DCI proper information, we also intend to file a complaint,” said Omari, adding that Wambui would pursue legal avenues if necessary.

Omari stated that Wambui had a constitutional right to run for office and should not be subjected to unfair treatment.

The lawyer was later released without any conditions.

His legal team affirmed he would cooperate with authorities if required.
