Laila OTT Release Date: Vishwak Sen and Akanksha Sharma recently starred together in a Telugu comedy which has grossed over Rs 5 crore worldwide. Released theatrically on 14th February, the film opened to mixed reviews. A latest report suggests that the movie will debut online in less than a month. According to Hindustan Times Telugu, Laila will be streaming on Prime Video from March 7.

Directed by Ram Narayan, Laila is bankrolled by Sahu Garapati under Shine Screens. Richard Prasad has cinematographed this Leon James musical under the editing of Sagar Dadi. Other than Vishwak and Akanksha, the film also features Vennela Kishore, Ravi Mariya, Nagineedu, Harsha Vardhan, Brahmaji, Babloo Prithiveeraj, Raghu Babu, Abhimanyu Singh and Vineet Kumar among others.

Sonu (Vishwak) runs a popular beauty parlour in the Old City, where his makeup skills have earned him loyal female clients. However, things take an unexpected turn when Sonu becomes the target of Rustom, a local wrestler, and SI Shankar. Amidst this turmoil, Sonu gets tangled in the Kalthi oil case. To escape the situation, he disguises himself as a woman and adopts the persona of Laila.

As Laila, Sonu does things he could never have achieved as himself—evading the blame that had been placed on him. But who is the mysterious Jenny who enters Sonu’s life? This is the central mystery of the story.

What went wrong with Laila?

The film, however, faced criticism for its lack of fresh ideas and an overabundance of double-meaning dialogues. In response to the backlash, Vishwak Sen addressed the trolls and negative reviews with an open letter on social media. He acknowledged the criticism and assured fans that he would be focusing on strong, meaningful stories in his future films.

The negative reception of Laila severely impacted its box-office performance. With a break-even target of around seven crores, the film struggled, earning less than one crore on its opening day. This disappointing result led to substantial financial losses for the producer with no scope of scaling up anymore.
