In a significant move to enhance economic development and youth empowerment, the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) in collaboration with King’s Trust International (KTI) has officially launched an initiative called Employability Support Project.
This project aims to tackle youth unemployment and equip young people in Lagos with critical job-ready skills. Also, the project, which will train over 2,000 youth over the next three years, will be implemented through two core interventions: Get into Programme and Get Hired Programme.
The project will provide young Lagos residents with soft and technical skills in high-demand sectors, as well as training on self-awareness, CV preparation, job search strategies, and interview techniques.
By equipping young people with these skills, the project aims to bridge the skills gap and facilitate job placements. Speaking at the launch, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said the collaboration between LSETF and KTI marks a significant milestone in efforts to create a more inclusive and prosperous Lagos. He emphasised the government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for young people to thrive and generate employment opportunities.
British Deputy High Commissioner in Lagos, Mr. Jonny Baxter, expressed his support for the initiative, stating: “The UK recognises the vital role of skilled young people in addressing current and future global challenges. We are proud to support innovation and skills development in Nigeria.”
Baxter highlighted the importance of international partnerships in driving economic development and youth empowerment.
Also the Executive Secretary of LSETF, Feyisayo Alayande, emphasised the significance of the collaboration, stating: “This collaboration with King’s Trust International is a major step in our commitment to reducing unemployment in Lagos State.”
The CEO of King’s Trust International (KTI) said: “The partnership between KTI and LSETF marks an important step forward, enabling us to scale our programmes across Lagos over the next three years.”
Chief Executive Officer, Coronation Group, Wole Onasanya stated: “We are proud to support the Youth Employability Support Project, which aligns with our commitment to empowering African youth and fostering economic growth.”
