Accra High Court Revises Bail Conditions for Former National Signals Bureau DG and Wife

In a recent ruling, the Accra High Court has revised the bail conditions for Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), and his wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng, who are implicated in a case involving financial loss to the state. Justice Ruby Aryeetey presided over the proceedings.

The court reduced Mr. Adu-Boahene’s bail from GH¢120 million to GH¢80 million. The revised conditions stipulate that he must provide two sureties, one of whom must provide justification. His wife's bail bond remained at GH¢80 million, but the new conditions now require two sureties with no justification. Furthermore, the couple is required to report to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) twice a week for the next three weeks. A travel ban has also been imposed, requiring express permission from EOCO for any travel outside of the jurisdiction.

These revisions come in response to an application filed by the couple’s legal counsel, Samuel Atta Akyea.

The couple is under investigation by EOCO, facing allegations of embezzlement, fraud, and illicit financial transactions. Adu-Boahene, who served as NSB Director-General from 2017 until February 2025, is accused of diverting millions of Ghanaian cedis of state funds into personal accounts.

Reacting to the court’s ruling, Samuel Atta Akyea expressed confidence that his client would be able to satisfy the revised bail conditions.
