Kota bears the brunt as heavyrains lash dists in Hadauti region
Kota/Jaipur: Heavy rainfall occurred in several districts, including Kota, Ajmer, Chittorgarh, Jaipur, Pali, Bhilwara, Banswara, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Beawar, Jhalawar, and Sawai Madhopur, on Wednesday.Eight gates of the Kota Barrage on Chambal River were opened, releasing 1.40 lakh cusecs of water and causing widespread waterlogging in low-lying areas. The Hadauti region comprising Kota, Bundi, Jhalawar, and Baran districts witnessed continuous moderate to heavy showers from late Tuesday till Wednesday noon, resulting in flooding of colonies, public buildings, and religious sites.As water levels rose, five gates of the Kota Barrage were initially opened at 8.30am Wednesday, releasing 75,000 cusecs of water.
With increasing inflow from Rana Pratap Sagar and Jawahar Sagar dams, three more gates were opened later in the day, taking the discharge to 1.40 lakh cusecs.District collector Peeyush Samariya, accompanied by officials, visited the barrage around noon to assess the situation and direct precautionary measures. Executive engineer Arun Kumar Meena said water from two gates each of Rana Pratap Sagar and Jawahar Sagar dams, along with rainwater from catchment areas, contributed to the rising levels.
The barrage currently holds water at 852.20 feet, close to its full capacity of 853 feet.
The discharge will be adjusted in line with the inflow as the IMD has forecast the rainfall to continue in the region till July 6. In Kota city, several colonies and roads were submerged.Devotees were seen wading through the waterlogged premises of Khade Ganesh Temple in Rangbadi area of the city. Rainwater entered a hospital, a school, and an ATM in Modak town following heavy rain at night.In Jhalawar, 9,000 cusecs of water was released from three gates of the Bhim Sagar Dam and 122.26 cusecs from one gate of the Kalisindh Dam. A 30-year-old pregnant woman stranded in floodwaters at Gargon village was rescued by an SDRF team and taken to a hospital by ambulance.Meanwhile, the Baran district administration conducted a mock drill near Sambalpur village, rescuing 10 people stranded on an island amid the overflowing Parvati river.The Bhilwara district also experienced moderate to heavy rains. The highest rainfall in the district was recorded in Hamirgarh with 230mm followed by Bhilwara at 190mm. Gulabpura town recorded 145mm of rain, causing waterlogging on roads and residential areas. A man around 50 years old was swept away in the Banas river while crossing a bridge in the Mandalgarh assembly area in Bhilwara as the water flow above the bridge rose to about three feet.The weather department issued an orange alert for heavy rain in Ajmer and Bhilwara on Thursday, and a yellow alert for all other districts except Sriganganagar and Hanumangarh. After heavy rains in southeastern Rajasthan, gates of dams on rivers like Chambal and Kalisindh were also opened. In Bhilwara and Beawar the inflow into the Bisalpur Dam increased.In the last 24 hours, the highest rainfall was recorded in the Khanpur area of Jhalawar at 200mm, followed by Jiyola Senior of Ajmer at 180mm and Asnawar Senior of Jhalawar district at 180mm.
