Korean Culture Centre seeks collaboration with Nollywood to cross-fertilise cultures
The Korean Cultural Centre has announced its plans to collaborate with Nigeria’s vibrant film industry, Nollywood, with the aim of fostering a mutual exchange of storytelling techniques and nurturing emerging talents.
This initiative, according to them, is part of a broader commitment to make a significant impact in four key areas: education, cultural events, collaborative projects, and community engagement.
Through this partnership, the Centre hopes to create opportunities for cultural exchange that will not only enrich both industries but also provide a platform for young filmmakers and creatives to develop their skills and share their unique narratives. By bridging the gap between Korean and Nigerian cinema, they envision a dynamic blend of cultural influences that will enhance the richness of both storytelling traditions.
The culture and events officer, Yunijin Lee, made this known at a film show held in commemoration of the 15-year celebration of the Korean Culture Centre Nigeria’s legacy in Nigeria at the Red Dish Culinary School in Wuse, Abuja. The culture officer emphasised the importance of collaboration with talented Nigerian filmmakers.
She articulated that such engagement is vital for fostering a mutually beneficial cultural exchange between the two countries.
Yunijin stated, “Our goal is to enhance experience and cultural exchange. We are excited to explore potential collaborations in the film sector, specifically within Nollywood, targeting opportunities for partnership in September or October. As a Korean organisation sponsored by the government, we are committed to promoting Korean culture while also recognising the immense talent within the Nigerian filmmaking community. We are eager to seek out opportunities for exchange, including workshops and contests, to facilitate this cultural dialogue.”
