The victims, Jackson Mwangi, 20, his mother, Susan Wanjiru, 45, and grandmother Beth Wanjiru, 75, died on the spot after the motorcycle they were riding collided with a matatu.

Nation reports that the three met their deaths while heading home from Wanguru Law Courts.

According to family spokesman John Gakotho, the trio had just attended the mention of a case in which Mwangi was the accused.

He was out on bond and was riding the motorcycle at the time of the crash. His mother and grandmother had accompanied him to court in a show of support.

“The motorcycle collided with a matatu and none of them survived,” said a sombre Mr Gakotho. “We are heartbroken. This loss is unbearable.”

The unexpected deaths have left the family reeling, with relatives now appealing for financial help to facilitate the burial of their loved ones.

“We are struggling. We don’t have money for coffins or transportation of the bodies. We’re calling on well-wishers to help us give them a dignified sendoff,” Mr Gakotho pleaded.

The tragedy has also deeply shaken the local church and community leaders, with Reverend Peter Gaitho of Rukanga Anglican Church describing the deaths as a tremendous blow.

He added that he knew all three personally and was in disbelief when he received news of their demise.

"This is a big loss, not only to the family but to the entire community,” he said, urging local leaders to step in and support the mourning family during this difficult time.

Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing. Meanwhile, the community continues to mourn the loss of a young man, his mother, and grandmother, all taken too soon in a single, heartbreaking moment.
